These teriyaki meatballs are an easy and delicious Japanese dish to make for dinner. These Sweet and spicy teriyaki meatballs can easily go from a party appetizer to a weeknight meal.
Ingredients
For Meatballs
- 1 pound chicken minced (use thigh mince for softer meatballs)
- 1 egg
- 1/2 cup bread crumbs
- 1 tsp garlic paste
- 2 tsp ginger paste
- 1/2 tsp soy sauce
- 2 spring onions chopped
- 2 tsp crushed black pepper
For Teriyaki Glaze
- 1/2 cup soy sauce
- 1/2 cup brown sugar
- 1/2 cup water
- 1/2 tbsp sesame oil (toasted)
- 1 tbsp rice vinegar
- 2 tbsp ginger paste
- 2 tbsp cornflour/ wheat starch dissolved in 4 tbsp water
- 1 tbsp toasted white or black sesame seeds
METHOD
For Meat Balls
- Preheat oven to 200 degrees & line a tray with butter paper.
- Mix all the ingredients (for meatballs) well and make balls.
- Place on tray and bake for about 15-20 mins.
- Meanwhile, make the glaze.
For Teriyaki Glaze
- Place all the ingredients (teriyaki glaze) except for the sesame seeds and cornflour slurry, in a saucepan, and cook until the sugar dissolves.
- Bring the mixture to a boil and add the cornflour slurry.
- Once thickened, add the meatballs and stir well to coat.
- Dish out and top with sesame seeds.
- Serve with rice.
