Baked Teriyaki meatballs

These teriyaki meatballs are an easy and delicious Japanese dish to make for dinner. These Sweet and spicy teriyaki meatballs can easily go from a party appetizer to a weeknight meal.

Ingredients

For Meatballs

  • 1 pound chicken minced  (use thigh mince for softer meatballs)
  • 1 egg
  • 1/2 cup bread crumbs
  • 1 tsp garlic paste
  • 2 tsp ginger paste
  • 1/2 tsp soy sauce
  • 2 spring onions chopped
  • 2 tsp crushed black pepper

For Teriyaki Glaze

  • 1/2 cup soy sauce
  • 1/2 cup brown sugar
  • 1/2 cup water
  • 1/2 tbsp sesame oil (toasted)
  • 1 tbsp rice vinegar
  • 2 tbsp ginger paste
  • 2 tbsp cornflour/ wheat starch dissolved in 4 tbsp water
  • 1 tbsp toasted white or black sesame seeds

METHOD

For Meat Balls

  1. Preheat oven to 200 degrees & line a tray with butter paper.
  2. Mix all the ingredients (for meatballs) well and make balls.
  3. Place on tray and bake for about 15-20 mins.
  4. Meanwhile, make the glaze.

 

For Teriyaki Glaze

  1. Place all the ingredients (teriyaki glaze) except for the sesame seeds and cornflour slurry, in a saucepan, and cook until the sugar dissolves.
  2. Bring the mixture to a boil and add the cornflour slurry.
  3. Once thickened, add the meatballs and stir well to coat.
  4. Dish out and top with sesame seeds.
  5. Serve with rice.
