Chateau Calon-Segur 2015 Saint-Estephe Grand Cru Classe

Short Description

It is in the archives of the Château, in particular in an act of July 10, 1362, that we find the existence of this vineyard called Calon. In 1670, the granddaughter of the then owner married Jacques de Ségur, owner of the castles of Lafite and Latour, who gave him his final name by adding his name to it. Small detail: on the label appears a heart, a discreet reminder of the sentence of its owner at the time: I make wine in Lafite and Latour but my heart is in Calon.

It is a Saint-Estèphe Troisième Grand Cru Classé according to the prestigious 1855 list presented to the Emperor Napoleon III.

The vineyard covers approximately 50 hectares on a gravel soil and subsoil with a grape variety composed of the following type: Cabernet-Sauvignon 53%, Merlot noir 38%, Caabernet Franc 7% and Petit Verdot 2%. Production is of the order of 300 barrels, ie around 360,000 bottles with an average yield of 7,200 bottles per hectare.

The entire harvest is manual with careful sorting of the berries in the cellar. The vatting lasts about 21 days, then the wine is aged in new barrels for the whole for 20 months before bottling.
