Olivier Leflaive Chassagne-Montrachet 1er Cru Clos Saint-Marc 2019
Short Description
Clos Saint Marc (1.70 hectares) is part of the Chassagne-Montrachet 1er Cru appellation "Les Vergers".
North-eastern exposure, the earth is red and stony. Ideal for Chardonnay.
The vinification takes place upon arrival at the cellar, the grapes are pressed immediately and delicately using pneumatic presses.
The wine is aged for 17 months in barrels.
Ideal with a fillet of monkfish with dill or salmon, noble white meats such as veal in sauce.
It is Olivier's grandfather, Joseph Leflaive, who, in the aftermath of the 1st World War and the bankruptcy of his steel plant in Saint-Etienne, will initiate the expansion of the estate, his investments in Burgundy being all he had left.
The estate becomes a family farm of 35 hectares. His son Joseph Régis, insurer, and his brother Vincent took over in 1953.
The house quickly acquired its titles of nobility, in particular thanks to the arrival in the 1970s of air conditioning in Puligny, a considerable advance for this village built two meters above the water table which did not have underground cellars.
