Everyone knows that coconut milk tastes delicious and healthy. Thanks to its high content of medium-chain fatty acids, coconut milk, like carbohydrates, is used by the body as a fast source of energy and, unlike other fats, is rarely stored in adipose tissue. Coconut milk can therefore help you lose weight very well. Furthermore, coconut milk should be effective against acne and even stimulate the thyroid gland in a hypofunction.

What is coconut milk?

Coconut milk, coconut water or coconut cream, are words you will hear very often. But do you know the difference? There is often a lot of confusion about what coconut milk is. Simply stated: If you drill a hole in a coconut, put a straw in it and drink the coconut with relish, then it is the coconut water and not the coconut milk. But if you then open the nut, scrape off the white flesh, put it in the blender together with a little warm water, mix thoroughly and then squeeze out this mixture, then you get the coconut milk. If you let the milk stand for a day, then the fat content of the coconut milk would eventually settle above, so you can skim it off. This way, you get the pure coconut cream.

Coconut Milk is healthy

In the late 1980s, for example, the Swedish scientist Lindeberg found people on the island of Kitava in the archipelago of the Trobriand Islands in Papua New Guinea, many of whom still lived exclusively on natural foods, I.e who had largely retained their traditional way of life. Industrially processed food had almost never eaten there at the time. Coconut milk, coconut oil and other coconut products are a major part of the Kitava diet. Lindeberg compiles interesting facts:

6 percent of the population was between 60 and 95 years old. However, none of the older Kitava residents showed any signs of dementia or memory impairment. While in the industrialized nations very often dies of a heart attack or stroke, that was completely different on Kitava. Although there were unexpected deaths there too, these were people who fell victim to accidents. For example, they drowned when fishing or occasionally fell off a coconut tree. Also malaria or tribal feuds demanded many deaths. Basically, Kitava died of old age.

Losing weight by using coconut milk?

Once the medium-chain triglycerides have entered the cell, they form smaller droplets there, to which enzyme facilitators can bind and which can be more rapidly converted into energy by the cell. MCTs are therefore less "thickening" than other types of fatty acids. For this reason, Asian farmers apparently never give coconuts to their animals - at least not if they want to fatten them. The animal would always be slim and sporty. As with any food, of course, there is also the opportunity to take too much of it with coconut milk. If you overdo it with coconut milk shakes, coconut milk desserts, coconut milk smoothies, coconut milk soups, etc., which admittedly is not difficult at all, because the coconut milk tastes just so delicious, the positive effect of the MCTs would be over at some point. If you want to lose weight, make sure not to take more than 60 ml (1/4 cup) of coconut milk per day. If you also want to use coconut oil, then you should completely replace your previously used frying oil with coconut oil. However, to achieve weight loss, do not use more than 30 ml of coconut oil daily. If you do that, then you can lose weight slowly and healthily.

Does coconut milk help against acne?

The antibacterial lauric acid in the coconut milk is also an effective substance against the bacterium commonly considered to be responsible for acne, namely, Propionibacterium acnes. Lauric acid survives digestion, enters the bloodstream and is attracted by the sebum that forms in the pores of the skin. The acid dissolves in the sebum and can thus slow down the growth of the acne bacteria locally, which reduces the excessive sebum production.

Coconut milk instead of cow's milk

While cow's milk and its cream has become more and more of a processed industrial product from a not very animal-friendly factory farming, coconut milk, if purchased in high quality, is still the genuine natural product that is used by many peoples of tropical countries and countries Islands serves as a staple food. Diluted coconut milk is a nutritious and delicious substitute for cow's milk. It perfectly complements the taste of pineapple, peach, mango and many other fruits and can therefore be used to prepare fruit smoothies or desserts. From the Asian cuisine countless recipes for soups, sauces and vegetables and meat dishes are available to choose from, without coconut milk do not get along.
