The rice is grown at the foot of the Himalayas. Indian family farmers grow the Dehradun Type 3 traditional variety of rice. The rice requires a lot of manual work and effort to grow. It is strictly grown according to the Code of Practice on Basmati Rice regulations. The non-hybrid variety enables the farmers to grow their crop without patented seeds or hybrid seeds, as they can independently grow new rice plants from the rice from the previous year every year.
