Preparation: 1. Preheat oven to 350 degrees F for metal and glass pans, 325 degrees F for dark or coated pans. Generously grease pans and dust with flour. 2. Mix cake mix, 3 eggs, 1 cup water and 1/3 cup oil until uniformly moist. Beat 2 minutes at medium speed or 450 strokes by hand. Pour 3/4 of batter into pans. Sprinkle cocoa mixture from small packet into remaining batter; blend thoroughly. Spoon over batter into pans. Cut through batter with knife to achieve a marbled effect. 3. Bake according to chart. Add 3-5 minutes to bake time for dark or coated pans. Cake is done if toothpick inserted in center comes out clean. Cool cake in pan 10-20 minutes (tube pan 25 minutes) . Remove from pan & cool top side up. Frost when completely cooled. Store loosely covered. Two 8 inch round pans: 350 degrees F; bake time: 26-31 minutes. Two 9 inch round pans: 350 degrees F; bake time 23-28 minutes. One 13 x 9 inch pan: 350 degrees F; bake time 23-28 minutes. One 10 inch or fluted tube pan: 350 degrees F; bake time 33-36 minutes. 24 cupcakes - fill 1/2 full: 350 degrees F; bake time 18-21 minutes. Since 1945.
