Buffalo Trace Bourbon Whisky

Short Description

The name of this bourbon and distillery was inspired by an old trail used by herds of buffalo, which ran through the distillery's Kentucky River property.

Long Description

Colour: Light bronze with golden reflections. Aroma: Complex, exceptional, starts with a spicy tingle, with vanilla, mint and molasses.

Taste: Pleasantly sweet with notes of brown sugar, spices, which are replaced by vanilla notes of oak and leather. The corn brings a good mouthfeel, rye extra depth and a structured background. The finish is long and dry, with depth. Oak wood notes in the foreground, but rye also brings a background of spicy bitterness and liquorice. With a little water, toffee, aniseed and dark fruit notes appear. Surprisingly smoky for a Bourbon.

Maturation: The Buffalo Trace Straight Bourbon is made from corn, rye and barley and then matures for about 8 years in Charrcoaled White Oak Barrels.

Origin: The oldest buildings of the distillery, which are used for the production of whiskey, do not date back to 1792, but there are indications that it was already distilled here in 1878. Buffalo Trace itself has been producing continuously since 1857. The first owner of the distillery was Benjamin Blanton, who sold the distillery to Edmund Taylor after a short time. Edmund Taylor gave the distillery the name O.F.C. which stands for Old Fire Copper. Together with George T. Stagg, Edmund Tayloer completely renovated the distillery in 1873 and towards the end of the 19th century Stagg took over the distillery and gave it his name.

Today, Buffalo Trace produces several types of whiskey, Ancient Age, Blanton's, Buffalo Trace, Eagle Rare, Elmer T. Lee, George T., Hancocks, Kentucky Dale, McAfees, Old Charter, Old Weller, Rock Hill Frams, Sazarec Rye, W.L. Weller.
