Piper-Heidsieck Hors-Série 1971 Champagne

Short Description

The Piper-Heidsieck house unveils an HORS-SÉRIE collection: a vintage assembled 50 years ago and recently disgorged called "HORS-SÉRIE 1971".

This is a real heritage transmitted by several generations of cellar masters. This cuvée is in a limited edition (2021 units) and stands out for its uniqueness, relating to its aging time in the cellar or to its particular blend.

This cuvée was awarded by the International Wine Challenge (IWC) as "Sparkling Winemaker of the Year 2021".

It is a blend of 12 different crus, harvested in September 1971. It is presented in a solid oak box produced by the know-how of French craftsmen.

The color is bronze gold.

On the nose and on the palate: a wide, powerful aromatic palette with spicy notes as well as remarkable freshness for a historic champagne of fifty years.

Its length lines the palate with a velvety touch, combining vinosity and smoothness. The finish is lively, with citrus accents.

Food / wine pairing: it pairs ideally with shellfish, such as blue lobster from Brittany, with fish such as turbot or monkfish caviar flavored with coriander.

Bottles to be stored in the cellar away from light and noise with a humidity of 70%. We suggest successive tastings in order to measure the evolution of its qualitative peak.

It all starts with Florens-Louis Heidsieck. Born in 1749, this son of a Protestant pastor from Westphalia moved to Reims as a clothier, where he fell in love with a Champagne ... and Champagne wine.

Self-taught, he is driven by a great ambition, "to create a cuvée worthy of a queen". In 1785, he founded the Champagne cloth and wine trading house Heidsieck & Cie.

He becomes a master of his art to the point of having the honor of presenting his wine himself to Queen Marie-Antoinette.
