Directions MAKE A MOSAIC FLOWER POT.Pretty, Easy, Creative, Ooh! , Quick, Aah! , Appreciated, Inexpensive, Admired, Unique, Cool! , Impressive, Great Gift. These flower pots are terrific! They look spectacular and are surprisingly easy to make. Children from age four and up will have a great time creating these. The younger children need some help and supervision from a grownup. Think about using this as a craft project at a party. Or make them for gifts. One mom helped her children mass create these for holiday giving! What You Need:Newspaper,A 4 terra-cotta clay pot, 1 quart bucket of ready-mixed joint compound (used to patch drywall), Ceramic tiles (bathroom or kitchen tiles), Large flat-backed jewels (find at the craft store),Hammer,Putty knife. Here's How:1. Begin by breaking the ceramic tiles into small pieces. It's best to work outdoors on pavement for this part. Place a ceramic tile between two sections of a newspaper. With supervision, have the child hit the tile firmly with the hammer. Between each hit, take out and save the pieces that are about 1 x 1 . You'll get all kinds of different shapes and sizes. Throw out the very small pieces and further break up the too-big ones.2. Cover your work surface with newspaper. In front of each child, place an assortment of tile pieces and gems.3. Using the putty knife, frost the terra-cotta pot with the joint compound. Holding the pot upside down from the inside, smooth the compound on about 1/4 thick. Older children may be able to do this part themselves.4. Place the frosted pot in front of the child. Now have the child stick the tile pieces and gems onto the pot. Tell the child to space the pieces evenly, not too far apart. Show how to turn the pot from the inside, so as not to mess up the compound.5. Let dry 24 hours. With a dull knife, scrape off any compound that may have gotten on the tiles or gems. If a tile or gem piece becomes loose, just glue it back on.A couple of hints:- To give the pot a true mosaic look, at least half of the area on the pot should be covered by the broken tile pieces. The addition of the gems gives the pots a wonderful, sparkling look.- Use your imagination for other materials to apply to the mosaic! Some suggestions are old plates with patterns (broken in the same manner as the tiles), smooth rocks, buttons, dried beans, beads, macaroni, shellsNotes to parents:Sheetrock brand of All Purpose Joint Compound by USG was used for this project. USG stated that the joint compound was safe for use in this project; however, children should avoid getting the compound in their eyes and mouths. These pots are for indoor use only. If used for a planter, keep plant in plastic container when placing in pot.LIFT TAB TO OPEN. Warnings CONTAINS WHEAT.WHEAT USED IN THIS PRODUCT CONTAINS TRACES OF SOYBEANS.
