It is made from a barley-base grain alcohol and infused with botanicals grown across Southern Europe, notably abequina olives, thyme, rosemary, and basil. They use a special still that is believed to impart special qualities to the spirit. Mare translates as the sea from Latin but the website attributes other meanings such as motherhood and community. In their 2010 review, the Beverage Testing Institute remarked that it was an aggressive and vibrantly green herbal gin that will stand out and captivate in cocktails. They reiterated that opinion in 2011 by claiming it was a masculine gin that will elevate cocktails.
