Short Description

The Chocolate Block - Boekenhoutskloof Western Cape 09 / 10 A TRUE SOUTH AFRICAN CLASSIC. The quest to understand the name of this wine and the wine itself is now the stuff of legend Rhone Style Blend The nose is exceptionally perfumed with an abundance of complex red and dark berry fruit, violets and intense aromas of white pepper. Dark brooding fruit follows through onto a structured, opulent palate with notes of cardamom, cumin, cloves and black pepper. The midpalate is rich, textured and balanced with integrated acidity, cocoa powdery tannins and a definite cedarwood character derived from French oak. White pepper lingers on a smooth, lifted finish. Food Pairing Due to its multi layeredness, it is an ideal meal companion. Whether with pasta, dark meat or roast, this red blend always impresses. Grape Syrah 79%; Grenache 11%; Cabernet Sauvignon 6%; Cinsault 3%; Viognier 1%. This wine is a complex blend of five grape varieties in which Syrah constitutes by far the largest part. This explains the grand interplay of ripe fruits with the clearly noticeable spices. Besides, Cabernet Sauvignon and Grenache Noir contribute even more richness; Cinsault and Viognier harmoniously round off the blend. The Estate With the The Chocolate Block, the winery Boekenhoutskloof has created a true icon of the South African wine world.
