Casa De Santar 2015 Red Wine

Short Description

Casa De Santar Dao RedThe 2014 Tinto (Casa de Santar) is a blend of 50% Tinta Roriz, 30% Touriga Nacional and 20% Alfrocheiro, aged for nine months in a 50/50 blend of new and second use French oak. Another fine value from Global Wines (which owns Santar), this is simply seductive. (There will be no Reserva this year, which might have helped. ) With caressing texture, it has a clean, dry finish and a very Burgundian feel. It admittedly has only modest concentration, but look at the price. In a poor vintage, it is a very nice performance for a value wine. Ultimately, I liked Global Wines' Encontro (separately listed) slightly better as their best value offering this issue, but reasonable minds might differ. This has more velvet, that has more energy. They are both can't-miss bargains at their price points. Drink this young - I doubt it has the ability to reward cellaring in this vintage (other years often do). It comes in at 13. 5% alcohol.refined red, with concentrated flavors of cherry, raspberry and currant, supported by fleshy, medium-grained tannins. A long finish of spice and smoke.
