Long Description
The Germans have Jägermeister and Underberg, Unicum is produced in Hungary, and Becherovka is drunk in the Czech Republic. What they all have in common is the leading botanical wormwood, which is also used for absinthe. The so-called Pelinkovac is the Croatian variant of the bitter herbal liqueur. Pelin, the name giver, is of course the wormwood herb! All major distilleries release their own brand, but the oldest and best-known version is the Pelinkovac of the traditional house Badel in Zagreb. For more than 150 years, different versions of Pelinkovac have been put on the market, produced by Badel according to the old recipes and with the original maceration methods. Whether it is the more than 20 different herbs steeped in old wooden barrels or the burning of the macerate in the copper stills, Pelinkovac still has the same taste today as it did more than a century ago. Although the various Badel recipes are kept secret, it is at least known that a good load of sugar ends up in this liqueur to balance the bitter taste - everything else is not brought out into the open. This herbal bitters is best served ice cold, with a slice of lemon and as an aperitif or digestif.
