Long Description
Chang is a beer brand from Thailand. Chang is Thai for elephant, an animal of great cultural and historical importance in Thailand. The elephant can be found on the logography. It depicts two elephants meeting each other.
Chang beer is produced in Thailand by Thai Beverage Plc. in three breweries according to international standards. One is located in Bang Ban district in Ayutthaya province and is owned by Beer Thip Brewery (1991) Company Limited; one is located in Khlong Khlung district in Kamphaeng Phet province and is owned by Beer Thai (1991) Public Company Limited; the third is located in Wang Noi district also in Ayutthaya province and is owned by Cosmos Brewery (Thailand) Ltd.
The production of alcoholic beverages in Thailand was regulated and supervised by the government. In 1990, the Thai entrepreneur Charoen Sirivadhanabhakdi operated eleven "Thai whiskey" distilleries and managed all twelve state distilleries. In 1991 the market for alcoholic beverages was liberalized.
In the early 1990s, the Danish beer company Carlsberg wanted to enter the Thai market. Sirivadhanabhakdi proposed to set up a joint venture company with him as a partner. The Carlsberg Brewery (Thailand) Company Limited was founded. From 1993 onwards, brewing took place in Wang Noi near Ayutthaya. The sales department benefited from Sirivadhanabhakdi's customer network. Thus Carlsberg was available throughout Thailand in a short time.
